I meet some problems in attempting uploading the iraf package using ftp.I first must explain the context in which I have to perform this operation :
. the destination host (my machine) is a sun 4-330 running sunos 4.1.1
. this machine is connected to the ethernet network of our institute
. this network is NOT linked by an internet gateway to Internet
. there is on our network a vms microvax machine which obviously also
connected to Decnet
. so I use this decnet connection to submit my ftp requests with the
mail facility to a server whose adress is : jnet%"bitftp@pucc"
. the files are transfered to my home directory on the vms machine
. I then forward them with interactive ftp to my sun workstationI have encountered the following problems : 1) I have got the file ls-lR.Z in compressed format.
if I try a ftp from the vms machine to my sun workstation with binary
transfer mode then the transfer is aborted with an I/O error reported
if I try a ftp with ascii transfer mode then the transfer conpletes
with success, but zcat or uncompress are unable to uncompress the
file (message : "ls-lr.Z not in compressed format") 2) I have also uploaded the compress_vms.exe file to try to uncompress
the file under vms before performing the ftp to the sun machine.
when I execute the command : "run compress_vms" I get the message :
"image header descriptor length is invalid"Have you an idea about the origine of these problems ?
How can I solve them ?Pierre HABRAKEN
