Dear IRAF,I managed to do a 'first installation' of IRAF v2.9 onto our
VAXstation 3100 without incident once I freed up enough space.
(By the way, we are running VMS v5.3-1, have FORTRAN and C compilers,
have an Imagen Imagestation laser printer, an LA100 line printer,
and use EDT as an editor.)
I have a couple of questions that I need your help with, however.
1. We only have a single disk, dkb0: , but I would like to incorporate
a scratch / temp area like you suggest (instead of each user having
his/her own scratch / temp area). How can I do this? I would like
to create a [scratch] directory and give everyone wred privilege as
well has have unlimited quotas. But is this possible with a single
volume?
2. I am not sure what parameters to use in the zzsetenv.def file.
Suppose I am running on the console terminal (running DECWindows)
of the VAXstation 3100. What specific settings do I need for my
login.cl? (The editor = edt, printer = imagen, but I don't know
the other settings.) If I were running IRAF from a go140 terminal,
would the settings be (in addition) terminal = go140, stdgraph = go140?
3. How do I display a 2-d image on the VAXstation console terminal?
(both using display and contour).
4. Can I ftp both .fits and .imh, .pix files from the Sun 4/280 (running
Unix) to the VAX and read them in using the VMS IRAF? and v-v?
5. Is there a minimum RAM you suggest for running IRAF on a VAXstation? Thanks very much for your help.Michael De Robertis(Dept of Phys & Astronomy, York University, North York ON Canada
