George, thanks for the detailed bug report. It took only a few seconds to
fix the bug since you diagnosed it so carefully.There hasn't been any further work on the high level display interfaces,
IDI, IDK, etc., yet, but there has been quite a bit of work on IMTOOL recently.
I will send along via separate mail a copy of the relevant section of the
notes file for you to read so that you can assess the changes. If you are
using IMTOOL a lot then you might be a good beta test site for the new version,
otherwise we will probably have a new minor release of Sun/IRAF after an
unspecified interval of time.The major enhancements to IMTOOL are full network support, support for use with
foreign clients like the VAX, arbitrary frame buffer configurations, multiple
frame buffers, fully independent frame buffer and display window, pan, blink,
frame select, save/load frame in rasterfile, and a few more. Zoom has not
yet been implemented, nor fully interactive cursor readback and graphics
overlay. That is too much work to be worthwhile in the prototype, but will
be available in the final interface. An X version of all this is also in
preparation (in collaboration with CFA).I am working on the photon image format now (started last week), which I recall
you and Hermann are interested in. Will fill you in later. Doug
