Hi,I am trying to install the mscred package (and the mscdb).
I believe I have followed the installation instructions, but when I get into
iraf and attempt to start the package, I get: dataio language noao proto utilities
dbms lists obsolete softools
images mscred plot system ecl> mscred
ERROR: task `mscred' has no param file
Basic iraf works. This is on a Fedora core 12 linux system. There is no mscred.par file in the directory tree.
I do not see any parameter files in the mscred-bin.redhat.tzg or mscdb.tar.Z
archives. Is there something else I should be downloading? Thanks,
Fred Walter

All external packages need to have the source distribution installed even if you are using the pre-built binaries, this provides the parameters files, help pages, script tasks, etc. You'll need to get the mscred-src.tar.gz file and unpack in the e.g. /iraf/extern/mscred directory.

Hi fitz,Thanks, but I had installed the src file.
I checked against the FAQ - iraf is properly defined everywhere. Some diagnostics:
ls -al loca/mscred/*.par
-rw-r--r-- 1 iraf users 727 2010-11-17 14:04 mscred.par(the rest of the .par files are in /src/*.par)printenv host -> /home/iraf/iraf/unix/in hlib$libc/iraf.h: #define IRAF "/home/iraf/iraf/"
in $hlib/cl.csh : set d_iraf = "/home/iraf/iraf/"in .login: setenv iraf /home/iraf/iraf/
in .cshrc: setenv iraf /home/iraf/iraf/The mscred definitions are in login.ls AND in extern.pkgI have installed everything under iraf/iraf/local, rather than /iraf/iraf/externI'm ready to wipe the installation and start over.Fred

In that case, make sure the definition of 'mscred' in the hlib$extern.pkg file includes a trailing '/', i.e.[code:1:c64f4e043b]reset mscred = /home/iraf/iraf/local/mscred/
task mscred = mscred$mscred.cl
[/code:1:c64f4e043b]
