I'm trying to find references for the WAT keywords in the spectral WCS. The only paper I've found that mentions them is "The IRAF/NOAO Spectral World Coordinate Systems" (http://adsabs.harvard.edu/cgi-bin/nph-data_query?bibcode=1993ASPC...52..467V). Greisen's various papers on the spectral WCS don't cover them. Is Franciso's paper the only one or have I missed a more recent reference?Jason

Jasson,Frank may respond with more detail: The WAT keywords are an IRAF convention, I'll leave it to Frank to comment on where these stand wrt the FITS WCS papers (those both published and pending). Note that the command "help specwvcs" will get you the named paper in the system.-Mike

Jason,I am just confirming Mike's response. IRAF WCS (spectral or otherwise) predates any FITS standards on the subject. The paper Mike pointed you to (there was a typo and should be "phelp specwcs") is the primary reference. The WAT keywords are an IRAF convention for encoding function forms.Frank Valdes
