Dear IRAF support,Is there a possibility, for a second or multiple plot window, somewhat similar to the midas set/grap command?
E.g. one could be used to show the cross section of 2d spectrum (aperture profile) while the other could be used to show simultaneously the extracted spectrum.

[quote:ad9ba4f94a]Is there a possibility, for a second or multiple plot window, somewhat similar to the midas set/grap command?[/quote:ad9ba4f94a]Yes and No. Yes in the sense that the PyRAF interface allows you to make a snapshot of a plot screen to a second window, and yes in the sense that the default XGterm graphics window could be made to behave in the same way. However, No in the sense that the application (or the system) has no means to accept input from more than one graphics window. You can imagine that with multiple plots you might have differing commands depending on the context, even if the graphics framework allowed this the apps would need to be modified to accommodate it.You can try the PyRAF approach, or a simpler solution is to simply run two IRAF windows on the same image, perhaps with different tasks to do the separate functions you need.-Mike

Thanks Mike![quote:87dc9c41a7]a simpler solution is to simply run two IRAF windows on the same image[/quote:87dc9c41a7]
So how can I do this? E.g. prow dummy.fits in one window and pcol dummy.fits in a second window?

Depends on what you're doing, but a better choice might be to do the APALL stuff in one window and start a second window running IMPLOT or IMEXAMINE to do image slices. The key thing is, don't change the image you're looking at in the "visualization" window that confuses the data in the "reduction" window. In some cases there may already be a command that provides different views of the data, but if you're really trying to mix functionality between tasks two sessions is perfectly legitimate.-Mike
