[b:5e31dc4ee8]Subject: [/b:5e31dc4ee8][b:5e31dc4ee8]Determining radial velocity with IRAF[/b:5e31dc4ee8]Dear Frank Valdes,I'm a beginner to IRAF trying to learn reduction spectra and how to obtain radial
velocities of stars in open clusters. I made the exercises in
http://iraf.noao.edu/iraf/ftp/iraf/misc/ ,
but they don't include the determination of radial velocities (the use of fxcor and rvcorrect, for
example).
Do you know about some text (manual, tutorial, cookbook, etc) for me accomplish this task in
a more friendly way than with the help pages of IRAF? Or other software that do the same task?
Thank you,
Roberto Madeira.[b:5e31dc4ee8]From: [/b:5e31dc4ee8]Frank Valdes <valdes@noao.edu (valdes@noao.edu)>

Hello Roberto,
That would be a nice guide to have but, unfortunately, I am not aware of any user cookbook on the subject. You might look at the external package GUIAPPS which includes a graphical version of some IRAF tools. The graphical task is called XRV. Its help may be easier. The only only other option is a google search. I tried "IRAF radial velocity tutorial" and found a few possibly useful references though not a beginner's guide.Yours,
Frank Valdes
