Hello,I have been using IRAF with XIMTOOL for many years,
and am planning to purchase a new Sun workstation
to replace my old Sun Ultra-10. I am concerned that
with the new computer, I might no longer be able
to use XIMTOOL, but will have to use SAOImage. I
much prefer XIMTOOL and wanted to ask if it is
still supported in the latest versions of IRAF.
I have seen situations where both XIMTOOL and SAOImage
were available on a given machine. Is there anything
special that might be needed to allow me to continue
to use XIMTOOL?thanks very much,Ron Buta

XImtool still runs unders Solaris, and still has the 8-bit default visual limitation. DS9 will work on a 24-bit display but has its own quirks (e.g. no
wcs/pixel readout when displayed from IRAF, a DS9 limitation, not an iraf
one). Search the forums for "BadMatch" and you'll quickly find the standard reply about the 8-bit workarounds.-Mike
