I'm new to IRAF, so please excuse a beginners question. I'm running IRAF on Redhat Linux....things seem ok, but when I try to run implot I get a bunch of (what looks like control characters) to my screen, not a nice graphic plot. I get something like this: /0d #r#S#r(L$f(L#r(L O "p'Y 100 #r(L$r-G$f-G#r-G) , etc, etc.any ideas ???Thanks...... Matt Ganis

Garbage characters always mean a mismatch between the terminal you
are actually using and the one you told IRAF you're using (e.g. using
an XGterm but set for an Xterm), or you're not using a graphics
capable terminal (a gnome-terminal, kterm, rvxt, etc). If you're using
an XGterm window you can manually set it on the 'cl>' prompt with cl> stty xgtermor set the default when you do a MKIRAF. Same goes for Xterm which
is about the only other choice in graphics terminals.-Mike
