Hi,I would like to combine some images to make a tricolor image. I know
that I can do that with the export task. Isn't there another way ?Salutations,Virginie Chantry

hi Virginie,
The only other way is using the RGBSUN task in the COLOR package,
however this is rather old and produces only Sun rasterfile formats.
Otherwise, you'll need to export each band individually to something
like a GIF and then use a host tool like Photoshop/GIMP to combine them
as needed. Hope this helps.Cheers,

Hi Virginie,Quick RGB composites can easily be done with DS9 (http://hea-www.harvard.edu/RD/ds9/).--

Hi Virginie,In my experience the best color images come from working in Photoshop or GIMP since you have far greater control. There is a detailed tutorial on this by Travis Rector (http://xxx.lanl.gov/abs/astro-ph/0412138) and by using his techniques, I was able to make much nicer color images that I'd been able to do before (using RGBSUN).I believe GIMP can open fits files directly and there is a free plugin (described in the Travis Rector tutorial) which opens fits files in photoshop and gives you great control over display parameters.Let us know if you get a nice color image out of any of this.Josh Walawender
