Does the boxcar task do anything that might cause thrashing?I'm running it to do a 3x3 smoothing on a 900x1024 image. It's taking
over a minute to do it.At first I thought it might have been related to trying to do it in
place (replace the original with the smoothed) but I tried again with
a different output and it was the same.What factors are important in it taking so long?Richard Clark

Hi Richard,
The boxcar should be almost instantaneous on an image that size.
If I had to guess I'd say it was an NFS mount problem, either because a
FITS file is on an NFS mounted partition or the .imh/.pix files of an
OIF image are. Try copying the file someplace local like /tmp and run
it again, if it runs quickly check the system log for disk error messages.Cheers,
