HiThere's a problem again......My IRAF work well on Ubuntu except for the STSDAS and TABLES package,
I download these packages and try to install them, but when I use them, they say can't open *.e files and I find there's no *.e files at all
Is there anyway can make them work on Ubuntu??Thanks a lot

There shouldn't be any problem with any of the external packages. These are usually distributed as source that can be compiled locally (see the associated 'readme' file for the instructions), or you can install prebuilt binaries available separately. For STSDAS/TABLES there are only RedHat binaries prebuilt, however you should be able to unpack these in the e.g. stsdas$bin.linux directory (for Ubuntu).See Also:http://mjhutchinson.com/journal/2006/11/05/install_iraf_on_ubuntu_edgy_amd64

HiI re-installed iraf 2.13BETA tonight and these two package again as the website says, it seem to be OK. But when I use it, there's problem again...For example:
onedspec> splot spSpec-52731-1214-159.fit[*,1]
Can't get image spSpec-52731-1214-159.fit[*,1]
Unable to open parameter file `uparm$oncsplot.par'.I check the login.cl file:
set home = "/home/clearskies/"
set imdir = "/iraf/imdirs/root/"
set uparm = "home$uparm/"
set userid = "root"the uparm is already there, at /home/clearskies/uparm and with no file in it, I search the forum, there's people had this problem before but I still don't know where's the problem, my uparm's path in login.cl is right......My early version of iraf is 2.12, and I unistall it by ./uninstall in the /unix/hlib/ and then remove the /iraf files but I don't change the iraf user, maybe there's something wrong...
Thanks for help

Maybe I did something wrong when I uninstall the early versionSo what's the right way to uninstall iraf ?And there's still another problemI did makeiraf in /home/clearskies/ first, but when I try to mkiraf in other directories I can't use cl to login iraf, it said can't find ecl.e file in /iraf/irafbin/

set userid = "root" [/quote:dfffa58c24]There are two errors here: The 'Cant get image' and 'Unable to open uparm'. In the first case you're asking to splot the first row of the image as a section, note this is different that asking for aperture one using the parameters directly. The error is coming probably either because of a permission/name problem, or that the image is already one-dimensional.Inteh parameter case I note your 'userid' is "root", are you logged in as root at the time and does root own the /home/clearskies directory? Recent linux systems have tended to restrict the default permissions and so it may be that '/home/clearskies' (or just the uparm directory) isn't readable because it was created by a different user.[quote:dfffa58c24]So what's the right way to uninstall iraf ?[/quote:dfffa58c24]The uninstall script in $hlib should remove the iraf commands from the system directories but won't erase it entirely from the disk. You still need to manually remove the files in the iraf tree. This may again be a permission problem where another user can't read the files owned by the iraf user, or it could be that the IRAFARCH environment variable is set telling it to look in the wrong place (IRAFARCH should be 'linux' for Ubuntu).Cheers,
-Mike

Thanks a lot
I guess it's the permission problem, I will reinstall it again and this time I will do mkiraf first by root user and see what happened......
