I have installed IRAF an in PC.The image get displayed an "ds9" window. But the graphic window is not working.i am not able
to plot row or coto of image.Kindly advise me how to get around with this difficult.thank you.

Garbage characters always mean a mismatch between the type of terminal you are using and the type of terminal you told IRAF you were using. Usually this is something like running an Xterm but typing 'xgterm' when asked by MKIRAF for the terminal type, or vice versa. You can just do a new MKIRAF to reset the terminal type or else do a "stty xterm" or "stty xgterm" as appropriate. Note that the terminal icons at the bottom of the PC panels do not support graphics and cannot be used, you'll need to explicitly start an Xterm or XGterm window for IRAF.

Xterm and XGterm will both work, provided you start the correct window and tell IRAF what kind of window that is. Hope this helps.-Mike
