I am getting this error when trying to fit lines using SPLOT. The file opens, I can do "w" and "e" to zoom in on a certain range, but when I try to use "k" or "d" or anything else to fit a Gaussian (etc.) to a line, this error message ERROR: Illegal filename operand (null string)shows up in my xgterm window and I can't use the splot window anymore. Any ideas? I am stumped.

I'm not sure what parameter is causing this but it is usually due to some parameter setting. I would suggest you unlearn splot and then set the parameters again. Be particularly careful in anything to do with filenames. Note that " " and "" are different and the second one is what you should use to specify no filename. The tricky thing is that in epar you cannot see the difference. But if you do lpar splot you can see if you have a space character. If this doesn't fix your problem, please post an 'lpar' listing of the splot params.Cheers,
-Mike

I have the same message when I ccdproc zero image. After 3 hours of fight, I made IRAF login.cl again, and now, it works!
