Hello there,I'm having trouble with installing xgterm on our system, caos linux.
(I know I know, it is our system manager's choice, not mine)If I try binary xgterm for linux, bin.linux, I'm getting the familiar error.xgterm: error while loading shared libraries: libncurses.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directoryAnd I did the following symbolic link which works for RedHat. (It worked
on my laptop machine which has RedHat) # cd /usr/lib
# ln -s libncurses.so.5 libncurses.so.4But for caos linux, this trick does not work. Do you have any suggestion?
I do need to use xgterm...javascript:emoticon('') Of course, I tried to compile from the source but I'm getting 50 lines of errors.

In this case the message means it isn't finding the v5 library: If caos has v6 then you can try the same trick of linking libncurses.so.6 to libncurses.so.5, however I suspect it is just a matter than libncurses isn't installed at all. If you or your sysadmin can install this or verify it is missing (look for an 'ncurses' or 'termcap-compat' package) you should be able to get it working (use 'ldd' to check for other dependencies). Otherwise, see the X11IRAF source inhttps://iraf.net/ftp/pub/fitz/x11iraf-new_gcc.tgzand try compiling that instead. A new source distro of X11IRAF with various platform changes is on the way but not ETA. Post again if you still have problems.Cheers,

in fact ver5.4 and linked to -.so.5. But it didn't work. To make it sure I
reinstalled the latest, libncurses, readline, termcap, but it didn't help.
I have a redhat system on my laptop and it worked but on my desktop
with caos linux platform, I could not make it work.However, your new X11iraf-new_gcc worked!!! and now I can use
xgterm. Although I was getting the following error message,

I was about to post when your reply came in. CAOS looked like and odd little system so I configured a virtual machine with it and found as you did that the new source compiled (once you got all the yacc/flex/bison/x11 stuff installed). In any case, I put a version of the xgterm I got athttps://iraf.net/ftp/pub/fitz/xgterm.caosI mention it here because this is linked statically wrt libncurses and might be useful elsewhere.[quote:4487a32c5c]

The system is trying to execute the mkpkg file directly instead of the command (ISM_WCSPIX is a plug-in task that provides the real-time wcs/pixel display for ximtool). You can ignore this for now, else change the $PATH in your .cshrc/.bashrc file.Cheers,
