Dear IRAF, I have installed IRAF 2.10.4-p2 on a P100 running RedHat 3.0.3 Linux
(with 1.2.13 kernel and a.out support), GCC 2.7.2 and libc 5.2.18. I have
installed /usr/i486-linuxaout/lib/libf2c.a. I am trying to compile a local package but I get the following error lo> mkpkg -p local
xc -c -w -p local bswap.x pavg.x psimage.x
bswap.x:
t_bswap:
pavg.x:
t_pavg:
psimage.x:
t_psimage:
bswap.f:
tbswap:
cc: installation problem, cannot exec `cpp': No such file or directory
ar r /a/spica/d/pciraf/local/src/libpkg.a bswap.o pavg.o psimage.o
ar: bswap.o: No such file or directory
ranlib libpkg.a
etc.. We do not have problems using the compiler to build kernels etc. If I
place a link for cpp in /usr/bin (/usr/bin/cpp -> ../../lib/cpp) the
error message then changes to `cannot exec cc1'. Is there anything in IRAF that could explain this error, or is it a
problem with the Linux setup ? Cheers,
Paul

Hi Paul,
It's a linux problem of some sort. The IRAF XC compiler only calls
the 'cc' command, this in turn calls cpp, c1 and so on as part of the C
compilation process. It may just be that your path needs to include the
proper paths to find the commands (check your .cshrc or .profile files).
Using the command lo> mkpkg -dv -p localwill print out all the steps that xc is calling so you can use this to check
for needed paths. We don't have RedHat installed here but if you still have
problems feel free to write back.Regards,
Mike Fitzpatrick
