LOCALE
======
La Serena is a major South American summer vacation
destination due to it's beautiful beaches and traditional small town
atmosphere. March usually offers the best of La Serena's weather,
with sunny days with temperatures around 25 C (77 F) and a cool ocean
breeze in the evening. In addition to the city and it's beaches, we plan excursions to
both La Silla and Cerro Tololo to tour the observatories. An
additional excursion to Las Tacas Ressort is planned for the Workshop's
Banquet.
TRAVEL and ACCOMMODATION
======================== There are usually two flights daily from Santiago to La Serena,
usually taking less than one hour in transit for around $60 US one
way. There is also excellent bus service (with seats that rival first
class airline seats), taking approximately 7 hours in transit but
costing substantially less (roughly one quarter the cost of an airline
ticket, around $25 US one way). The organizing committee expects to be able to offer financial
assistance to some participants, especially students and recent Ph.D's
not able to obtain funds from their home institutions, to cover
expenses WITHIN Chile. Funding for travel expenses to Chile is beyond
our means. If you do require financial assistance, please indicate so
below. If you are interested in attending and/or would like to receive more
information about the Workshop, please reply at your earlist
