Hi AJ, it is good to hear from you again. That is a good suggestion, if we
do further work in the area of volume rendering we should probably take a
more careful look at the NCSA package and as you suggest consider
integrating this with IRAF to make it easier for our users to make use of
it. Just out of curiosity I downloaded this stuff a couple of years ago (I
realize you probably you are talking about a significant new version), but
when I found out I had to build all the HDF stuff first I ran out of time to
play with it. NCSA is certainly doing a lot of interesting things (Mosaic
being another example).The truth is of course that high-end visualization is a peripheral issue for
us. We are currently concentrating our efforts on GUIs for IRAF applications,
and have done a lot of work in this area over the past year and a half. Some
of this will start to appear in the next IRAF release this spring. Our
emphasis is mainly on 2D graphics and imaging and integrating this along with
a general GUI capability into our science applications.Thanks for the input (saw your posting to sci.astro.fits by the way). - Doug
