Tim, Your default editor it set to emacs. What editor do you use?
Do a "reset editor = edt" or whatever is appropriate and some of the
errors will go away. Still, you get the "error in device name or
inappropriate device type for operation" error from the edit command.
I'd like to log on and investigate. Can you email me (sjacoby, not iraf)
login instructions for the iraf account? I will log on, probably tomorrow,
and coordinate with you about having a tape in the drive. Thanks.Suzanne

Hello Tim, I am logged on to the iraf account. Everything looks fine. I
can edit a file in uparm, after issuing a "reset editor = edt" command
in the CL. I try to allocate mtg, but get an expected error since
there's no tape in the drive: cl> allocate mtg
Tape mount error: %MOUNT-F-VOLINV, volume is not software enabled
ERROR: cannot allocate device mtg
allocate (device=mtg)So, everything looks good so far and I can't repeat the error you saw
yesterday with edit. When you get in, please put a test tape in the drive
and send me mail. I'll log back in and exercise the tape.Suzanne
