Dear IRAF Hotline, This problem concerns loading an IRAF native format (*.IMH, *.PIX) file
into SAOIMAGE. The file is 800x200 pixels, but when loaded into the display,
the outer pixels are lost, and the remainder is surrounded by a 512x512
white border. Loading an 800x200 file directly into SAOIMAGE, without IRAF,
results in all of the image being displayed. What is happening? I am running
on a VAXstation/VMS, and the ZZSETENV.DEF file has stdimage set equal to
imt800. Donald Gudehus

Hi Donald,
In standalone mode SAOimage doesn't read the zzsetenv.def file (this
is an IRAF specific file), the default frame buffer is 512x512. If you are
seeing the whole image then you must have SAOimage set at the VMS level to
use an 800x800 frame buffer (with the "-gd" flag). By " when loaded into
the display, the outer pixels are lost" do you mean that the IRAF display
command loads the image into what appears to be a 512x512 buffer?? If
so then the 'stdimage' set in zzsetenv.def may be being overridden by an-
other definition in your login.cl or loginuser.cl file. Use the command
"show stdimage" to see what frame buffer config is actually being used.
If this doesn't help could you explain a bit more about what you are actually
seeing (and doing), I'm not quite sure I understand the problem.Regards,
Mike Fitzpatrick
