When building a cl file,
I call "fscan (file, string)" to read a string from a file, the4 string is onlyof
about 62 characters. Could one read a longer string by changing some parameters?

Wei Zheng,
There is a limit (hardcoded) on the length of a CL string parameter,
but it's more like 161 characters rather than 62. Be aware that a command
such as fscan(list,string) will read in only the first string before any
space characters. Could this be the reason you're not reading in as much
as you think?
If you havent' already got it, I suggest getting a copy of the
"Introductory User's Guide to IRAF Scripts". This is available from our
anonftp archives as the compressed PostScript file "script.ps.Z" from the
iraf/docs subdirectory. If you have any other questions or problems please
let us know.Regards,
Mike Fitzpatrick
