(Watch the site mail for minor followup messages on the X stuff)I installed the 3D version of the Athena widgets in X11R5, and generated
3D versions of a number of applications. Look for the files foo-3d in
/u3/x11apps/bin. xgopher looks especially good in 3d (run as xgopher-3d).
The normal and 3D versions of these applications are identical except for
the 3D look, e.g. they share the same resources. For the moment I am
maintaining normal and 3D versions of apps since the 3D stuff isn't very
well tested. ghostview-3d xarchie-3d xgopher-3d xgterm-3d
xmail-3d xnetlib-3d xrn-3dIf you want to try the 3D applications add the following to your .Xdefaults: ! The following are for Xaw3d
*shapeStyle: Rectangle
*beNiceToColormap: False
*Label*shadowWidth: 2To generate a 3D application use something like the following command: make USRLIBDIR=/usr/lib/X11 LIBDIR=/u3/x11apps/lib XAWLIB=-lXaw3dNote that it is not necessary to modify the Imakefile or Makefile to
do this sort of thing (and it is preferable to not change these files). One of the 3D executables I generated is xgterm-3d. If you use this to
run GUI apps such as hello or imbrowse you will see the 3D look. It may
not look like much however, until these user interfaces are tuned; you
have to get the colors and such right before the 3D look is very effective.
