Dear Sirs,
we have just acquired a sun Exabyte to be connected to our sun workstation.
Such Exabyte is of the new double-density type (2.3 Gby and 5Gby)
(the complete name is Exabyte EXB-8500 8mm Helical Scan).
We are under SunOS 4.1.3
>From unix, the 2 densities are simply addressed as nrst0 and nrst8
Consequently we have inserted the following entries at the top
of iraf (2.10) tapecap filemtexa5|mtsexa5|5.0 Gby :dt=Sun Exabyte:dv=nrst8:tc=mtexa:
mtexa2|mtsexa2|2.3 Gby :dt=Sun Exabyte:dv=nrst0:tc=mtexa:mtexa|Exabyte drive on ST 0:\
:al=nrst0 rst0 nrst8 rst8 nrst16 rst16 nrst24 rst24:\
:lk=st0:tc=sun-exabyte:Is this all right, or should we add extra parameters (eg. ts and dn)
to the density specific entry? And if so, what are the appropriate
values? Thanks a lot and Merry Christmas

Hello Bianca, Here is a tapecap entry I find in our sitemail for an EXB-8500:mta|mtalo|mta_low| :dv=nrst1:tc=mtrb1:
mtahi|mta_high| :dv=nrst9:tc=mtrb1:mtrb1|Exabyte drive (EXB-8500 8mm Helical Scan) on ST 1:\
:al=nrst1 rst1 nrst9 rst9 nrst17 rst17 nrst25 rst25:\
:dv=nrst9:lk=st1:mr#64512 r#64512:tc=sun-exabyte:This was for an EXB-8500 purchased from Artecon. The only significant
differences between this and your entry are the "mr" and "or" record sizes.
I suggest you add these to your entry and try it out. Let us know if you
have further problems.Suzanne Jacoby
