i remember years ago that some iraffer wrote a program called something
like "movie" to flip through a bunch (10 or 20) images quickly and
repetitively. does it still exist, does it run under X-windows?thanksed olszewski

Hi Ed,
The movie program is available from our anonftp archives on
iraf.noao.edu in the ~ftp/misc subdirectory as "sunmoviesrc.tar.Z". This
package runs only on Suns, and although it doesn't run under any window
environment (you have to exit SunView or X) I believe it needs to have SunView
installed. Also, the input format is a series of Sun rasterfiles not IRAF
images.
There are several animation packages available for X windows but
none of which are easily used with IRAF. You'll have to save rasterfiles
or some other format and create a playback file. If you're interested in
these you might look on export.lcs.mit.edu for then, programs such as
Xviewgl, Xanim and others. Of course, if you're running Imtool you can
blink up to 4 images in a (very) short "movie".Regards,
