Frank-I believe I've managed to achieve the essential first step by getting
"apsum" in the newimred package running with variance weighting.
As you predicted, this is clearly a big improvement on the old method
in terms of robustness (is that a word?). You correctly assume
that my other questions are more long-term than that, but I will want
to move to 2.10 just to simplify my life and improve the portability of
my routines to collaborators. I'll look forward to your return and
advice on how to proceed. Have a nice break.Gary
