Dear Sir, I am writing to you from Dept. of Astronomy, Faculty of Science at
University of the Republic, Montevideo, Uruguay. Some months ago, Dr. Emilio
Falco from the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory came here with IRAF.
He filled out the "IRAF MAILING LIST AND SITE REGISTRATION", but some changes
have happened and I would like to send you the data updated, but I do not find
the v29/REGISTER file. Can you mail us this file back, so as to give you the
new information? The most important thing is the new e-mail address:
astronom@seciu.uy
(or carballo@fisica.edu.uy) IRAF has been installed, but we still have some problems. We would like
to print images in a hardcopy device, more specifically, we have a Laser Printer
with PostScript and the UNIX command to print there is:% lpr -Plpl filenameI have set the "stdplot" variable in login.cl to "lpr" and I also have modified
the graphcap file in this fashion:# The following 2 entries submitted by Joe Harrington, MIT Planetary
# Science Group <jh@athena.mit.edu>. The first entry writes a PostScript
# file in /tmp. The second entry spools PostScript to the UNIX default
# device as defined by the environment variable PRINTER.
g-psdump|UNIX generic interface to Postscript file dump:\
Big GrinD=psdump,tmp$sgk,!{ sgidispatch sgi2uapl $F -l$(XO) -w$(XW) \
-b$(YO) -h$(YW) -p$(PW) > /tmp/irafdmp$$.ps ; rm $F; }&:tc=sgi_apl:
g-lpr|UNIX generic interface to default printer device (lpr):\
Big GrinD=lpr,tmp$sgk,!{ sgidispatch sgi2uapl $F -l$(XO) -w$(XW) \
-b$(YO) -h$(YW) -p$(PW) | lpr -Plpl; rm $F ; }&:tc=sgi_apl:
# End of Joe Harrington entries. The change is in the last but one line, where I have replace "lpr" by
"lpr -Plpl"And then, when I tried to print the metacode "opa" (this is the file name)
corresponding to the image dev$pix) I got this error message:pl> stdplot opa
/bin/sh: sgidispatch: not found
/bin/sh: sgidispatch: not found
pl> Note: The file "opa" was obtained like this:
pl> crtpict dev$pix output="opa"Do you have any comments about this? Thank you very much. At the Institute of Physics, we are planning to buy a new computer,
an IBM RS6000 320H, with AIX. We have been looking at the astronomical software available for this machine and IRAF was there. Can you tell us if IRAF has any problems running in this computer and if we need to get a new IRAF distribution
to install it ? Sincerely yours, Dr. Gabriel Carballo

Upon attempting to register our site using the html form on the
noao pages, I got the error: "Netscape is unable to find the file
or directory named /scripts/register.pl" when I hit "email
registration info." Please have a look at this. Did the registration
go through?Regards,Rich Rand

Hi Rich,
Do you mean the registration page on http://iraf.noao.edu, or the
main NOAO WWW server http://www.noao.edu? I just checked the iraf regis-
tration page and the everything seems in order and I can't find an error
in our http logs. Which URL were you using?Regards,
Mike Fitzpatrick
