Jeannette -Is there a way to alias a printer device name without
changing the entry in the iraf graphcap file. The printer
name is set in UNIX as setenv PRINTER lfa3. When one
attempts to output a plot it is sent to the stdplot, defined has
hp (Note the printer named lfa3 is an hpII printer). When you
:.snap a graph you get an error message since lfa3 is not
an entry in the graphcap.Suggestions? Chick

Hello Chick, This is in reply to the IRAF question you sent Jeannette. You can
set your CL environment variable stdplot = lpr. In that way, you'll
pick up the following entry from dev$graphcap which sends output to the UNIX
PRINTER device. Note that lpr, lp and lw are all aliases for this entry:lpr|lp|lw| :tc=g-lpr:g-lpr|UNIX generic interface to default printer device (lpr):\
Big GrinD=lpr,tmp$sgk,!{ sgidispatch sgi2uapl $F -l$(XO) -w$(XW) \
-b$(YO) -h$(YW) -p$(PW) | lpr ; rm $F ; }&:tc=sgi_apl:This assumes the default printer is a PostScript device so the sgi2uapl
SGI translator is being used. If your HP doesn't have a PostScript
cartridge, you would have to modify the DD string above so it uses the
sgi2uhplj translator. Let me know if you have questions about this; the
sgi2uhplj translator was not distributed with IRAF V2.9.Suzanne Jacoby
