Subject: SUNIRAF INSTALLATION

Status: RHi Suzanne, We received 3 SUN SPARC 2 workstations that will be installed in
two weeks. My task will be to install IRAF in these systems. In addition
we intend to configure it as a network, in other words, a multiplatform
one (VMS+UNIX) sharing peripherals,etc.
Presently we have IRAF installed under VMS in a 8530 VAX plus 3
Vaxstations 3200. We are running the 2.91 release, under VMS 5.31.
As I am totally analphabete in UNIX systems, I will need a close
assistance to perform this installation, and I would like to have answers
for the following questions:
a) Do you have any suggestion on how to configure this network? b) Will we need any software to run under VMS in order to make
this communication possible? c) Will we need another IRAF distribution package,I mean, another
source-only set of programs to rebuild the complete package?
Suggestions and guidelines on this matter will be welcome, and if
you need additional info, please feel free to ask for.
