Thanks for your help. Too bad IRAF can't do everything yet.
Reagarding our deblending wishes, we work with quasar spectra and
are interested in the broad lines (can be 10-20 000 km/s FWHM). Because
the lines are so broad, many features are blended. Also, the line
emiiting region is failr complex and as a result the lines are often
asymmetric (or at least pretty non-gaussian) and so it would be helpful
to use an unblended line to deblend the other features since that profile
shape is likely to be the best bet to fit the blended profiles (if you
can match ionization close enough). To first order you also know line
positions, although there can be shifts between lines (not all at the
same redshift).
Thanks again for your help. It sounds like V2.10 does have some
real improvements.Mike Brotherton
