It occurs to me that a possible way to work around the problems with the
various Ultrix compilers would be use to use the -h option to XC to build
a new XC task for each compiler combination. That is, write a shell
script called xc which calls $hbin/xc.e -h with all the appropriate libraries.
This disables the "builtin" linking logic and allows you to put this
knowledge into an external script which anyone could edit. To install the
workaround people could just replace the link local/bin/xc by this script.
