Dear Jeannette,
I am making progresses with the ./install -n steps. I was able to create all
the symbolic links required in /usr/local/bin save the link to /usr/iraf/unix/bin.dsux/generic.eactually the computer says the link exists but is invalid: unlink generic and
link to /usr/iraf/unix/bin.dsux/generic.e
I deleted the generic file in /usr/local/bin and remade the link several times
but always with the same response. Is there a specific Unix command to unlink?
I couldn't find it in my Unix manuals.I remeber, if necessary, that I adopted the following definitions:
new iraf root directory: /usr/iraf
default root image storage directory: /usr/users/tempiraf
local unix command directory: /usr/local/binThe final message was to touch hlib$utime; must I perform this command too,
and in which directory. I hope it is the last trouble for me (and you) Thank you very much Roberto Nesci

Roberto, Why are you doing all these things manually? Run the install script
without the -n switch so that it can actually perform the installation! It sounds as if you may need to manually unlink (remove, delete) the
generic link in /usr/local/bin. This is done simply with rm: % rm -f /usr/local/bin/genericRemember to run the install script as root *after* logging in as iraf: % login iraf
Password: <whatever>
% cd $hlib
% su
Password: <whatever>
# ./installThe hlib$utime file is a null file in the hlib directory that keeps a record
of when the system was last installed, that is, the last time that the
install script was executed. I would recommend that you do *not* touch
this file if you do the installation by hand.Chris Biemesderfer
