Andy, if you can restore the images to disk on a 386i and then write FITS
images there should be no problem. Don't expect the images to be identical
byte for byte, they won't be. The pixels should be identical no matter what
you do (unless floating point to integer scaling is being done when going to
and from FITS, in which case you will get some bit errors) but certain
fields of the image header will differ. This is normal. If you display the
image and it looks normal it is almost certainly fine. I wouldn't recommend
trying to write a program to fix things up in binary, unless there is no
alternative. Doug Tody
