 running the install script

I'm running into a problem with the install script. When I
tell the computer to go ahead and proceed with the installation I obtain
the following comment:- - - - - - - - - Check File Permissions - - - - - - - -
/irafunix/hlib/: No such file or directory
I've got an ftp distribution of v2.9 and am trying to install it on
a standalone SPARCstation IPC. I've also got a 660Mb disk on which to
put IRAF, so I simply created one partition on the disk and mounted it
on /iraf, which I intended to use as the root directory for IRAF. I
unpacked the AS.GEN.SOS4 file at /iraf and created 2 BIN directories:
/iraf/bin.sparc and /iraf/noao.bin.sparc for the core and NOAO
binaries, respectively.I then created a symbolic link within /iraf/noao
to /iraf/noao.bin.sparc (i.e. ln -s /iraf/noao.bin.sparc bin.sparc).If you've any ideas I would sure appreciate the help. I've muddled
through this once before and managed to get IRAF installed, but I'm
obviously doing something wrong this time and I have a difficult time
remembering what I did last December. It's a long story why I'm
starting from scratch...again.
Thanks,Bill Horst....c481012@umcvmb.bitnet

Hello Bill, I think your only mistake was in not having a trailing slash on
your initial definition of IRAF: % setenv iraf /iraf/
% cd $iraf/unix/hlib
% source irafuser.csh
% ./installTry the above commands again. You should be logged on as root when running
install, and these commands should properly define the IRAF environment.
Check this with the command: % printenvNote that the iraf .login file ($iraf/local/.login) contains a "setenv iraf"
command that gets edited by the install script to contain the proper path name.
You should check that this definition includes the trailing slash and if not,
edit it by hand to be correct. (I'm not sure this would be corrected by
install the second time you run the script.)Let us know if you have further problems.Suzanne Jacoby
