Hi David, Yours is the first report I'm aware of about the sparc printers.
It may be that the IRAF PostScript requires modification for these
printers; we need you to test out an idea. The PostScript generated by
IRAF contains as line 1:
%! IRAF SGI plotIt may be that the comment string after the %! characters is causing the
error. To test this, create a PostScript file from IRAF like this:
cl> prow dev$pix 1 dev=psdump
cl> gflushThis should create a file named irafdmp$$$ in the /tmp area. Try using lpr
to dispose this to both your lw and sparc printers. If you get the
reported error message from the sparc, edit the PostScript file so the
first line has only %! and try again. Let me know the results of the
test and we'll come up with a fix for you. It's not clear to me what the problem is with IMTOOL. You say
you're running IRAF and IMTOOL on the same node. In this case, don't
have node set in your CL environment, leave it unset:
cl> show node
ERROR: No such environment variable
show (node) Have you recently upgraded operating systems? If so, you should
rerun the install script, although, I agree, the fifo pipes in /dev look
fine. You should also have read permission on the imtoolrc file:-rw-r--r-- 1 root 1467 Feb 5 10:18 /usr/local/lib/imtoolrcI think the problem may be that node was set in your CL environment
incorrectly. Were you prompted for a password or do you have a
.irafhosts file? Perhaps there is some other entry in dev$hosts from
the distribution file that is confusing the issue. Let me know what you find out on both these issues.Suzanne
