 IRAF Laserwriter Problems Continue

Dear IRAF Support Team,This is more or less a followup to my previous message about
printing from VMS IRAF version 2.9 to a Laserwriter.
As instructed, I've changed the SGIQUEUE.COM file to use
our LW program when printing to the Laserwriter. The problem I
have now is that if I use graph foo device = "vapl"to send plot foo to the Laserwriter, SGIQUEUE.COM is apparently not
actually submitted to the batch queue until another "graph" command
is done. The plot does finally appear on the Laserwriter once a
second "graph" command has been done.Redirecting text output (from help, for example) to LW doesn't seem
to work at all, even though I have the linetask $lpr = "$lw/list $(1)"in my login.cl file. lw/list textfile is the command to print the
non-Postscript file textfile on the Laserwriter. If I use the command help graph | lprno printout appears and nothing appears to be submitted to the LW
queue.John Varsik, BBSO varsik@suncub.bbso.caltech.edu

Hi John, It is normal behavior for a hardcopy not to appear until the
second plot is started. The graphics stream is buffered in case you
want to append to an existing plot. The number of plots that are
buffered before the stream is flushed is controlled by the MF parameter
in dev$graphcap. For the vapl device, MF is defined to be 1 and so a
second plot must be generated to flush the first to the sgiqueue.com
file. You can explicitly flush a plot in the graphics buffer by
logging out of the CL, starting a second plot or using the CL command:
cl> gflush It seems you have defined your foreign task for printing correctly;
does it appear before the keep statement in your login.cl file? Have you
defined it as a task in the user package:
cl> ?user

I first thought the problem was just the task name. When you specify cl> help graph | lprit may be the LPRINT task that is being executed instead of your lpr task.
But a quick test here shows that is not the problem. Task lpr in the
user package has precendence over task system.lprint. You might try renaming
your task so it is not a truncated form of lprint and see what happens. Let
me know if that doesn't fix it; mail me your login.cl file and I'll look
into it further.Suzanne
