Bill, I just heard the rumor that Sun will be shipping "SYS4-3.2FCS",
their version of the OS for a Sun4 that supports diskless nodes, during
the first week of February. If you get a distribution for "SYS4-3.2L",
it will not support diskless nodes, and you will have to make a request
for a (no charge) update. Also, note that for a Sun4, you have to purchase a Fortran license
separately -- it is not included with the OS. The salespeople should
have been aware of this and alerted you at the time you ordered the Sun4.
IN ADDITION, you should order, also at no charge, a Fortran cross-compiler
for the Sun4 so you can produce object code that will run on the diskless
nodes. The Fortran compiler on the Sun4 does NOT (currently) produce
MC68020 or F68881 code, so nothing you will be able to compile on the Sun4
will run on the diskless nodes. We have just received our cross-compiler,
and have not had a chance to compile IRAF with it. We have been doing
all our compiling on Sun3's. Even if you do not have a working cross-
compiler at the time you get IRAF, the executables built for a Sun3 with
f68881 floating point on our distribution tape should run fine on your
3/60's (given SYS4-3.2FCS, so you can run the 3/60's at all).I will be sending the order form separately, as the person who knows where
it is, is temporarily out of her office.Steve Rooke
