Greetings.
There are three computers in my office and I am in the process of testing IRAF with it. I am working to get IRAF installed on another laptop, and I am testing a working copy on my linux box.
I noticed, however, that even my "working" copy doesn't properly launch IRAF... when I type "cl" on my linux box, I get the "Welcome to IRAF" intro paragraph, but then the cursor just stays put and blinks below the "Visit https://iraf.net" message... and it stays that way for several minutes, and then I receive the following error message:
"cannot access host 'iraf.noao.edu:80'
*** Initializing SAMP .... No Hub Available"
and then finally the list of my packages display. But my wireless works fine, I get 2 MB/s download speeds on pretty much any website including IRAF.net
But on two laptops in the office, running either sudo ./configure or sudo make check (at /iraf/iraf/extern/) is also not working since IRAF is trying to go online to grab some data... instead, the Terminal window just sits there, again, for several minutes. I don't understand why this is happening since IRAF was just able to download repository data an hour ago. But now I have IRAF on three machines, each of which all seem to be unable to get IRAF to connect... and the processes that I mention just hang.
What's going on?

At the moment, the iraf.noao.edu machine is having network problems.
You can comment out the CHKUPDATE command in your login.cl file to fix the problem with the slow startup, however you'll have to wait for the machine to come back online before a configure/update will work. Sorry for the inconvenience.
