Hi,

Starting late yesterday afternoon, both mscgetcat and adumpcat stopped working. They gave either "Catalog not found" or a segmentation fault errors, even when I tried from multiple computers/OSs/etc. Is there something going on at the NOAO end of things? Thanks,

Steven

A direct-access query to the service here, e.g.

http://archive.noao.edu/cgi-bin/scat?catalog=ub1&ra=0.&dec=0.&sys=J2000&mrad=10&nstar=-1

seems to work fine but we're checking whether there are problems with outside access. If you haven't updated your IRAF or OS prior to the problems then you might try unlearning the tasks in case a parameter was messed up. Alternatively, create a scratch login with MKIRAF in some place like /tmp and see whether logging in from there works, if so then it is likely a parameter or environment issue.

I tried making a new iraf in /tmp/ and it gives me the same errors. ADUMPCAT gives:

Cannot access catalog usnob1@noao at host inet:80:archive.tuc.noao.edu:text

and MSCGETCAT gives:

ERROR: Catalog not found (usnob1@noao)
"radecsys="FK5", equinox=2000.)"
line 23: mscsrc$mscgetcatalog.cl
called as: `mscgetcatalog (mode=h)'

The catalog name "usnob1@noao" is resolved to a service running on the machine "archive.tuc.noao.edu" via the mscred$src/catdb.dat file (there is a similar file in noao$astcat/lib/catdb.dat and nfextern$src/msctools/catdb.dat). That machine was recently switched to a different internal subdomain and so is no longer being found by your machine. We've requested that the old name still be made available and so the service should return to normal in a short while, however if you want to expedite the process simply edit mscred$src/catdb.dat and change occurrences of \$this->_split2($m[0])archive.tuc.noao.edu\$this->_split2($m[0]) to just \$this->_split2($m[0])archive.noao.edu\$this->_split2($m[0]).

Thanks for pointing out the problem, let us know if you still have problems.
