Hi, Mike---I think I encountered this problem before and you figured out what was causing it (but there was no workaround at the time). I'm still having problems with "ellipse" and other stsdas when I go to plot or interact with the display. I decided to install 32-bit V2.16 to see if that solves it. Unfortunately, even when I explicitly do a setenv IRAFARCH to macosx, the install task gets very upset and says FAIL on the core system does not appear to contain the proper binaries. Even though I've done a setenv IRAFARCH macosx, the install task is picking up that the architecture is macintel (lists this at the top under verifying system settings). --phil

Let me add that even rebooting the machine into 32-bit mode (by holding down the 3 and the 2 key during the restart) didn't help. If I do that, I can do a uname -m and see i386, but even after a setenv IRAFARCH macosx, the install task fails and lists the Architecture as macintel and the HSI arch as macintel.

I "solved" this by simply replacing the binaries in bin.macintel with those in bin.macosx. And the problem I was having isoexamine not drawing onto the image display was solved! Where I'm left with this:1) stsdas is not playing well with 64-bit IRAF. I don't know if this is similar to the parameter passing issue that you dealt with (imhist) or if this is something else again.2) It would be nice if there was some way one could install 32-bit and 64-bit iraf on a Mac. Shouldn't the install task pay attention to IRAFARCH.

Hi Phil,There have been other reports that the ELLIPSE tasks plots are in some way incompatible with the 64-bit CL graphics kernel, but I need an example file in order to debug it. The workaround of using the 32-bit CL is the only solution at the moment. Can you perhaps generate a plot and do a ":.write <file>" and ":.gflush" to create a metacode file to put in ftp://iraf.noao.edu/pub so I can have a closer look?Otherwise, the issue of being able to set IRAFARCH to force a particular architecture I thought was resolved, but will look at the install script again to be sure.Cheers,
-Mike
