Can someone please help? I am using mscred.mkmsc to convert a single image from a CCD with 2 amplifier readout into the multiextension format. For this, I have created the description file mkmsc.dat, which sits in the working directory and reads as follows: imageid(im1) 1
ampid(im1) 1
datasec(im1) !DATASEC1
biassec(im1) !BIASSEC1
trimsec(im1) !TRIMSEC1
ccdsec(im1) !CCDSEC1
detsec(im1) !DETSEC1
ccdname(im1) "IFOSC"
ampname(im1) "Amp1"
rdnoise(im1) !RDNOISE1
gain(im1) !GAIN1 imageid(im2) 2
ampid(im2) 2
datasec(im2) !DATASEC2
biassec(im2) !BIASSEC2
trimsec(im2) !TRIMSEC2
ccdsec(im2) !CCDSEC2
detsec(im2) !DETSEC2
ccdname(im2) "IFOSC"
ampname(im2) "Amp2"
rdnoise(im2) !RDNOISE2
gain(im2) !GAIN2The headers of the input images have been modified to contain the values of the revelvant keywords:
e.g.:
ms> imhead Hal_s150_gr7.4279.1.fits l+
Hal_s150_gr7.4279.1.fits[2168,400][ushort]:
No bad pixels, min=0., max=0. (old)

GAIN1 = 0.853
GAIN2 = 0.733
RDNOISE1= 4.139
RDNOISE2= 3.5468I use the command mkmsc and get:
ms> mkmsc Hal_s150_gr7.4279.1.fits Hal_s150_gr7.4279.1sn.fits desc=mkmsc.dat
Reading description file mkmsc.dat
ms>
That is, the process stops without creating the output file. However, this programme has worked (on the same machine) on a previous dataset, where the headers were treated in the same manner. Any suggestions as to what could be happening now? I have also tried :
ms> mkmsc Hal_s150_gr7.4279.1.fits " " desc=mkmsc.dat
Reading description file mkmsc.dat
Warning: Cannot access image (tmp4245a.fits)
ms>
Now the input file Hal_s150_gr7.4279.1.fits gets deleted from the directory.
(The working directory has all the required read/write permissons).
So what to do? Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help,
-fks.

Frank is the best person to answer but is away this week. One thing I spotted that might just be a typo, is that your header doesn't show any DATASEC keywords where the description file calls for these. If these are indeed missing, try adding them.

Hello,I'm sorry about not replying sooner. I now have less time to devote to help and did not read your message until today. Do you still need help? If you reply to this post I will be watching.Sending a list of the full header (say with IMHEAD) would provide useful information for me.Frank Valdes
