Hi IRAF people,
I was hoping that somebody could help me understand the database output of CCMAP. I'm looking for any indication of the error of the fit, in x and y, and am not sure where this information might be.
The xirms (e.t.c.) seem fairly large to be errors for my calibrated images, as I used a lot of stars and the fit seems sound. Ideally I would like the error to be related to the final term in the surface 1 section of the database output (the bold term below):

If anybody could help me work out whether or not this does give me an indication of the error, it would really help me out.
Thank you in advance!

It is true that it is hard to find a description of the CCMAP database. The URL below is a previous response found by search this forum (which is one of the reasons this forum was created).https://iraf.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=76009The rms in the earlier part is the rms per star and is often dominated by the uncertainties in the catalog coordinates. What you are asking about is the uncertainty in the fit. If the errors are truely random then I believe that dividing the provided rms per star by the square root of the number of stars used in the fit is effectively what you are looking for. Of course this is a purely formal estimate.Frank Valdes
