I have a question to the patch #1. It is not clear which files to apply. Does the name ...all... means that all must apply this patch and then other patches?I suppose the ...64.gz is a ...tar.gz file; why there is no standard extension? The files .../extern/README and .../alloc.e have not usual user/rights.Are the patches included in the "standard" files or I should download "standard" (iraf-linux.tar.gz) and then MUST download and apply patches?

[/quote:f23bea7ab9]The 'all' in this case means that the patch file contains binaries for all supported platforms. The worst that would happen by using this file is that you install extra binaries you won't use.[quote:f23bea7ab9]I suppose the ...64.gz is a ...tar.gz file; why there is no standard extension? [/quote:f23bea7ab9]All files are GCIP compressed tarballs you would unpack in the $iraf directory. The rest of the name gives the architecture, the "-linux" us a combination of the 32- and 64-bit binaries, the "-macosx" is likewise a combination of both 32- and 64-bit OSX binaries. The file to install is the one appropriate for your architecture.

[/quote:f23bea7ab9]The extern$README file is write protected to prevent accidental erasure, the alloc.e file is made setuid root by the install script I suppose you're saying that this prevents the patch file from overwriting the files?

Thank you. Now this is more clear.PS
On the "http://iraf.noao.edu/" we can still read: "IRAF V2.15 Release Now Available" (not "IRAF V2.15.1 ..."), and in "ftp://iraf.noao.edu/iraf/v215/PCIX/" we sill have "iraf.lnux.x86_64.gz" (not "iraf.lnux.x86_64.tar.gz" nor "iraf.lnux.x86_64.tgz").

Try forcing the page to reload or clear your browser cache to see the update announcement on iraf.noao.edu.As for the filenames, they are correct, not every file has a .tar.gz extension.
