Hi:I finished installing the newer version of IRAF and X11 on my laptop. The thing that's wrong with it is that I can only get IRAF or ximtool to work if I open an xterm or xgterm window from "Terminal" application. It's not a big issue, just annoying to open one application to open another one. Would you know why is this happening ?Thanks,Gus

It depends on what you mean by "work". The default Terminal.app doesn't do graphics however you should be able display an image as long as there is a DS9 or ximtool running. There is also a difference some times in the loginbehavior depending on whether your xterm/xgterm creates a login shell. Are there any IRAF-specific definitions in your .cshrc or .login file you depend on?Otherwise, could you be more specific about what is failing?

Sorry I should have explained the situation better. When I open the X11.app by clicking on the icon and the try to [i:78d3eec2a9]cl[/i:78d3eec2a9] or [i:78d3eec2a9]ximtool[/i:78d3eec2a9] or [i:78d3eec2a9]xgterm[/i:78d3eec2a9] the prompt tells me there are no such paths. But when I open terminal.app and then type [i:78d3eec2a9]xgterm[/i:78d3eec2a9], which opens a new x11.app window, and then do a [i:78d3eec2a9]cl[/i:78d3eec2a9] or [i:78d3eec2a9]ximtool[/i:78d3eec2a9] they work. I do the cl and I get logged into iraf and the ximtool window opens. So why is it that the x11.app needs to be opened from the terminal.app for it to recognize the iraf tools ?Gus

If you're getting a 'command not found' message, then this usually means your 'path' environment variable either isn't being set, or doesn't include the proper directory. Because you're seeing a difference in behavior between using Terminal.app and xterm this is probably as I was saying before that the path is being set in your .login file, but you aren't always using a "login shell".Try moving/copying your $path definition to your .cshrc file.
