Where should one install the x11iraf package? I tried installing on my iraf user account in a subdirectory (i.e. iraf/x11iraf). However, when I try to use imexamine or display in iraf I get the error message:
Error: cannot open device(node!imtool,,512,512). In addition, my system will not recognize the xgterm command. By the way, I am using Solaris 8 OS with V2.12.2 version of iraf.Thank you,
JB :

You can install the binaries anyplace you like, just be sure it is in a directory already in your search path (e.g. /usr/local/bin, /usr/bin, etc). If you type "xgterm" and get a "command not found", then it is probably just the case that the binaries aren't in you search path, so either move the binaries or change your path (i.e. the 'path' variable in your .cshrc/.login file). If you explicitly type the path to the binary and still see the message, it may mean the binary is incompatible or missing a shared lib,-Mike
