Hi all,I would like to apply an aperture trace from an image to multiple rows of that same image. In other words, I want to define an aperture initially, trace it initially, fit it, and then use that very same fit on another row of pixels on my 2D image. My dispersion axis is in the x direction, so I want to use a trace that I defined and fitted on some other row and apply it to the other rows.
I was just introduced to iraf this year, so if someone could point out if this is doable within iraf or any resources which might help me, I'll be very grateful.thank you for your help!

Frank would be the best person to respond, but I think this has been asked here before. The details may depend on whether these are echelle, slit or fiber data and whether they're already been extracted, but have a look a previos posts inhttps://iraf.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=73014andhttps://iraf.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=57815

I don't really have anything further to add. As the references point out, once an aperture is defined it may be adjusted in various ways -- shift it, change the width, shift the edges without moving the center, etc. This is done interactively in the aperture editing stage or, if you want to by-pass the graphical mode, you can edit the text file database that contains the aperture descriptions. The definition of an aperture is pretty straightforward.Frank Valdes

Thanks! I figured out that i can output via apall my aperture to a strip that is distortion corrected and i can control the width from there.
