Hello,Further to the issues described in https://iraf.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=87252&highlight=fxf, I am having issues using mscstack. I very recently had the task working on other images, but today it has not worked. The first error message is the EOF error, encountered when reading the output file I specified in epar. I tried flpr, and tried logging out & back in but to no avail. The next time I tried this (and every time since) the error message is Warning: Image header parameter not found (EXTVER), which I understand from other posts to not be the central issue. I have attempted to add the parameter using hedit but receive the message ERROR: parameter `EXTVER' not found. Can you help with this at all please? Thanks,Sarah

Both problems can be accounted for assuming there is a problem with the image header, e.g. and END keyword is missing or some other mishandling of the header. Strictly speaking, an EOF error might also mean the FITS file is truncated, either because the task writing it failed for some reason or perhaps because the zero-padding of the file is missing. Is the file size an integer multiple of 2880 bytes? If you page the file do you see and END keyword? Do simple tasks like IMHEAD work to list the primary or extension headers? As was mentioned in the other post, the EXTVER message is typically a result of some other error message and the way that the error recovery works. If you can't HEDIT the file to add an EXTVER to the primary header the file may be corrupted (could you post it to the anonftp on iraf.noao.edu:/pub)? Can you regenerate that output file again (perhaps by explicitly adding the ".fits" extension, or verify that your 'imtype' environment variable is 'fits')?

Thanks for that fitz, I returned to mscimage to recreate the mosaiced files and the mscstack task now is working on those. It appears the input files in question didn't mosaic properly so that the header information wasn't transferred properly from im1. (In case it is helpful to others, mscstack was terminating before creating the output file that caused the error, so there was no output file to test or add EXTVER to.)
Thanks for your help!
