Hi,When I use ccdproc (leaving the output blank) I would expect iraf to overwrite my files and save them under the same name... Something weird happens though; it transforms the fits files into pix & imh files.... any idea why??? Cry Cry Cry Cry

The file type is defined by the 'imtype' environment variable, i.e. if you do a "cl> show imtype" does it say 'imh' or 'oif'? In recent versions the default imtype should be "fits" so new images will be written in FITS, you can reset this in your login.cl.

I get imh as an output for the files before using "ccdproc" and after using it as well.
What is confusing to me is that with my old images that I reduced the spectra for in the past they also give "imh" when I do "show imtype" but this problem (of automatically changing the original .fits files into .imh files after processing them through "ccdproc" never happened before...
