I'm trying to extract a 1d spectra from a fits file using wspectext NAMEex.fits[*,2] NAME.txt On NOAO PC-IRAF Revision 2.12.2-EXPORT on Debian Linux, I get the error belowERROR: Cannot open pixel file (obj16ex.fits[*,2])When I try the same thing on NOAO/IRAFNET PC-IRAF Revision 2.14
on Mac OS X I do not get any errorsI thought it might be the imdir variable but it seems to be set
sensiblyWhat is going wrong ?Thank youDavid

If you can e.g. IMSTAT the fits file then there isn't a general problem reading the file and the section "[*,2]" may not be valid. Is this a 2-D FITS file or a 2-D spectrum? Another possible problem is that the file is truncated on the Debian system (i.e. not an even multiple of 2880 bytes). The imdir variable is used when creating a new .imh image and isnt' used when reading a FITS file.

Thanks for the suggestion. I seem to have solved the problem
by updating my version of IRAF running on DebianDavid
