Is there a list of commands somewhere that don't run in batch mode? More importantly, is iminsert one of them, or does it just have a very specific syntax for the parameters?Thank you.

As an IRAF rule, if you can run the task at the cl> prompt you can run it from a script (if that's what you mean by 'batch mode'). I can think of various bad things you might do to make this not a true statement, if you're having problems, posting a code snippet (and details of how you run it, whether it's a procedure script, etc) would help.-Mike

Sorry, I've used the term "batch mode" with others to mean that you can create a list and the command will read from the list and cycle through all of the files on it if you put that in as the parameter. If there is a term for this, I don't know what it is. (I have had very little IRAF experience).It seems that certain commands won't read a list, even if a different command can read that list (to rule out errors in the list). imextreme appeared to be one of them. I need to know if iminsert is another, or if my parameters are just incorrect. This is what I'm inputting: input 1 = @files.lis
input 2 = @files2.lis
output = @outputfiles.lis
option = replace
coordfil = coords.txt
offset1 = 0
offset = 0
xcol = c1
ycol = c2
entry = *
mode = alI'm sorry if this is a very obtuse question on my part, but thank you for the help.

Ahh, I get it now.There isn't really a list of tasks that take file lists and those that don't. It appears however that iminsert is one of the ones that don't allow a list. For tasks like this, the only option is to either run the command one image at a time or else write a script to loop over the file lists. In some cases, a file list doesn't make sense for the task, in other cases it is simply something that wasn't implemented.
