Hi everyone,I'd like to run [b:2a1098af85]quadproc[/b:2a1098af85] for reducing data from the 0.9-meter at Cerro Tololo, and to do that I need to install [b:2a1098af85]ared[/b:2a1098af85]. I'm working on an Ubuntu 8.10 (intrepid) box and I'm following the instructions here:
http://iraf.noao.edu/iraf/ftp/iraf/extern/ared.readmeAt step 5, it says to type:[code:1:2a1098af85]
cl> ared # load the package
ar> cd aredbin$ # go to the bin directory
ar> copy noaobin$x_ccdred.e . # copy executable
[/code:1:2a1098af85]However, I get this error:[code:1:2a1098af85]ared>
cd aredbin$
ERROR: Cannot change directory to `aredbin$'
called as: `cd (aredbin$)'[/code:1:2a1098af85]Any suggestions as to what's going wrong? Is there a better way to get quadproc? Thanks so much!

ARED is a fairly old package and we're recommending you use the QUADRED package (based on ARED) that's already part of the core system. For the error message you mention, the usual cause is that the 'ared' variable isn't defined in the hlib$extern.pkg file (or isn't defined with a trailing '/', or isn't defined before the finall 'keep' statement).-Mike
